RIAPA March 2019 Opioid CME Event.pdf
In 2017, the Rhode Island Department of Health, in response to the growing opioid crisis, has included 8 hours of mandated training for providers that prescribe opioids and other schedule II drugs.
This mandated training must be completed prior to the provider's license renewal. For PAs, that deadline is June 30th, 2019.
To help PAs meet this mandate, the Rhode Island Academy of PAs has assembled a program with local experts that meets the requirements set forth by the RI DOH.
Providers wha have already acquired some of the required CME training may choose to register for either day in order to complete their 8 hour requirement.
Acute and chronic pain management is an increasing challenge for both patients and providers. Changes in prescribing dynamics driven by the opioid crisis has left us looking for alternative methods in dealing with patients experiencing pain. This CME activity is designed to better understand the opioid crisis and provide potential alternatives to opioids for pain management through education with inter-disciplinary experts.
Who Should Attend
Any provider that treats patients for pain or prescribes controlled substances. This includes Physicians, Dentists, PAs, Pharmacists, APRNs, Fellows and Residents
At the conclusion of these activities participants should be able to:
This program has been approved by the Rhode Island Department of Health as meeting the 8 hour mandated Opioid Prescriber Training requirement.
“This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 8 hours AAPA Category 1 CME credits from the AAPA Review Panel. The total number of approved credits is yet to be determined.”
